  1. IMPORTANT NEW INFORMATION
  2.  
  3. The following issues are not covered in the Read Me file.
  4. Please read this information before installing Mac OS 7.6.1
  5. Update on your computer.
  6.  
  7. OPEN TRANSPORT 1.1.2 AND POWERBOOK 3400
  8. Open Transport 1.1.2 and the PowerBook 3400 are not
  9. compatible unless you follow these instructions. Open
  10. Transport 1.1.2 was released to address issues with very
  11. specific network configurations of some customers, and is
  12. not required for most Open Transport users. If you require
  13. version 1.1.2 of Open Transport for your network
  14. configuration, first install Open Transport 1.1.2, and then
  15. immediately install the Mac OS 7.6.1 Update for PowerBook
  16. 3400. This will overwrite resources which otherwise could
  17. cause crashes when switching between Infrared and LocalTalk.

  19. POWERBOOK 1400 AND NEWER TECHNOLOGY ETHERNET CARD
  20. A PowerBook 1400 used with the Newer Technology Ethernet
  21. card requires Ethernet driver version 1.5 or later from
  22. Newer Technology. Drivers older than version 1.5 may cause
  23. crashes. Visit Newer Technology's web site for the latest
  24. version: http://newertech.com/software.html, or call their
  25. Tech Support at 1-800-678-3726.

  27. INFRARED CONTROL PANEL PRODUCES INCORRECT ERROR
  28. If the Infrared control panel is selected on a computer that
  29. does not have infrared capability, an error -192 message is
  30. displayed. The error should state that Infrared is not
  31. supported on this computer.

  33. PRINTING SPEED IMPROVEMENTS
  34. Improved print speed is present for some computers using
  35. third party printers over LocalTalk networks. However, Power
  36. Macintosh 5400 and 6400 computers with processor speeds less
  37. than 200 MHz without an L2 cache still exhibit slow
  38. printing. Apple is working on a solution to this problem,
  39. and will post a solution as soon possible in the same
  40. locations as this update.

  42. 68040 COMPUTERS AND CLOSED CAPTION FEATURE IN APPLE VIDEO
  43. PLAYER
  44. Apple Video Player's Closed Caption option will cause a hang
  45. on a 68040 computer with the Apple TV Tuner card installed.
  46. Reinstalling the Apple Video Player (version 1.4) from the
  47. Mac OS 7.6 CD will remedy the problem. To reinstall, launch
  48. "Install System Software" in the Mac OS 7.6 folder within
  49. the Software Installers folder on the Mac OS 7.6 CD.  Choose
  50. "Custom Install" from the pop-up, then click on the triangle
  51. next to the item "Multimedia" to expand it. Select "Apple
  52. Video Player 1.4" and click "Install." When asked if the
  53. "Newer" or "Older" file should be used, select "Older."

  55. APPLE VIDEO PLAYER & MAC OS 7.6.1 INCOMPATIBLE WITH
  56. QUICKTIME MPEG CARD
  57. Apple Video Player will not properly recognize a QuickTime
  58. MPEG Card when run under Mac OS 7.6 or Mac OS 7.6.1. With
  59. Mac OS 7.6.1 the QuickTime MPEG extension can be used to
  60. view MPEG files using software decompression with Apple
  61. Video Player.

  63. APPLE VIDEO PLAYER 1.6 IS NOT INSTALLED ON POWERBOOK 3400
  64. If you need to use this application program, it can be
  65. downloaded from http://www.info.apple.com.

  67. POWER MACINTOSH 7100/80AV AND APPLE VIDEO PLAYER SOUND
  68. PROBLEMS
  69. If the sound is muted and the slider doesn't work in Apple
  70. Video Player on a 7100/80AV, open Apple Video Player and
  71. click on the mute button to activate it. Quitting and
  72. relaunching the Apple Video Player should then remedy the
  73. problem.

  75. MAC OS 7.6.1 AND APPLEVISION 1710: MISSING COLORSYNC PROFILE
  76. If you try to import the "AppleVision 1710-9300" ColorSync
  77. profile, and the error "Could not complete your request
  78. because a ColorSync error has occurred."  appears, install
  79. AppleVision 1.5.1 to eliminate the problem.

  81. EXTENSIONS MANAGER'S MAC OS 7.6.1 SETS OMIT FILE NEEDED TO
  82. PRINT
  83. Selecting "Mac OS 7.6.1 Base" and "Mac OS 7.6.1 All" in
  84. Extensions Manager, mistakenly turns off "Printing Lib" and
  85. printing is disabled. Manually turning on "Printing Lib"
  86. within Extensions Manager after choosing one of these sets
  87. will allow printing.

  89. EXTENSIONS MANAGER'S MAC OS 7.6.1 SETS OMIT MONITORS CONTROL
  90. PANEL
  91. Selecting "Mac OS 7.6.1 Base" and "Mac OS 7.6.1 All" in
  92. Extensions Manager, mistakenly turns off "Monitors" control
  93. panel. Manually turning on "Monitors" within Extensions
  94. Manager after choosing one of these sets will allow access
  95. to this control panel.

  97. INTERNAL SPEAKER ON POWER MACINTOSH 5500 AND 6500 REMAIN
  98. MUTED
  99. If external speakers are connected to a Power Macintosh 5500
  100. or 6500 when the computer starts up and are then
  101. disconnected, the internal speakers remains muted. Restart
  102. the computer after disconnecting the external speakers and
  103. the internal speaker will work normally.
  104.  
  105. VM IS NOT TURNED ON FOR 68030 & 68040 COMPUTERS WITH MORE
  106. THAN 16 MB OF RAM
  107. 68030- and 68040-based Macintosh computers with more than 16
  108. MB of physical memory do not have Virtual Memory turned on
  109. after installing Mac OS 7.6.1 Update.

  111. POWER MACINTOSH 5500 and 6500 SCREEN REFRESH PROBLEM WITH
  112. MPEG MOVIES
  113. Windows of MPEG movies on Power Macintosh 5500 computers may
  114. exhibit white areas obscuring the movie in the window.
  115. Removing the ATI MPEG extension from the Extensions folder,
  116. or manipulating the movie window will work around the
  117. problem.
